Easy Chocolate Angel Food Cake
Easily change an ordinary Angel Food cake mix into a Chocolate Angel Food cake with the addition of cocoa.
Easy Chocolate Angel Food Cake
Ingredients
1 (1-pound) package 1-step white angel food cake mix
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1-1/4 cups cold waterDirections
Move oven rack to lowest position. Heat oven to 350°F.Place cake mix in large glass bowl. Add cocoa; mix until well combined. Add water. Beat on low speed 30 seconds; beat on medium speed 1 minute. Pour into ungreased 10×4-inch angel food cake pan (tube pan).
Bake at 350°F. for 37 to 47 minutes or until top is dark golden brown and cracks feel very dry and not sticky; do not underbake. Immediately turn pan upside down onto glass bottle until cake is completely cool (about 2 hours). Run knife around edges; remove from pan. Store tightly covered.
TIP: Betty Crocker makes a ‘1 step’ cake mix (just add water).
Variation: To make angel food loaf cake - position oven rack to middle position in oven. Prepare cake batter as directed. Pour batter into two 9-inch loaf pans. Bake at 350°F. for 35 to 45 minutes or until top is dark golden brown and cracks feel very dry and not sticky. Immediately place loaf pan on its side on a heat proof surface, until cake is completely cool. Run knife around edges; remove from pan. Store tightly covered.
