Julia Child Listed as Spy
Gourmand Julia Child, world renowned chef, author, television personality…spy? Newly released federal documents list Julia Child as one of several spies who served in an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), an early version of the CIA.
In 1941, at the onset of World War II, Julia Child moved to Washington D.C. where she volunteered as a research assistant for the OSS. She played a key role in communication of top secret documents between U.S. government officials and their official intelligence officers.
In 1948, her husband and fellow OSS employee Paul Child was reassigned to the U.S. Information Service at the American Embassy in Paris. It is then, while in France, Julia attended the world-famous Cordon Bleu cooking school.
